"Shall we indeed accept [only] good from God and not [also] accept adversity and disaster?” Job 2:10
Those are powerful words. This man once had everything at one point and now lost every time, but this was his response. You see he doesn't feel entitled to what he had nor what he no longer has.
This our problem, we feel so entitled, we forget that we ourselves belong to him and not to us. We keep fighting to gain ownership of not only what we have but everything we think we deserve. So, it easier to abandon God, to blame him and turn our face way when things don't go as we expect them to be. We find ourselves take the ownership from his hands we once give it to him in full submission.
'What is your only comfort in life and death? That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.'
-From Heidelberg Catechism (1563)
This is something we need to be reminded every day. You see it's not about you and me but it's all about him. Our existence by itself is for the glory of God. So, every time we make it about ourselves, we find it very hard to submit to his will and his ways. Every moment we fight to gain ownership of ourselves we loss focus of the purpose he put before the start of time. You see obedience doesn't decrease our value but by this act if humility he becomes glorified in us, that's when we are satisfied in him.
"For none of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord." Romans 14:7 - 8
