I have been studying the book of Jeremiah lately. We all know how the story goes, "They turned away from God and they paid the price for their betrayal." But reading it chapter by chapter made me understand everything deeper.
The very thing that dragged this people to destruction was having the wrong concept about God.
They thought all God cared about is the sacrifice they brought before the alter but He wanted more than that, He wanted this people to be his people.
They thought Worshiping God and Bowing for other idols and gods could go along together.
They think they can deceive him and still find themselves in a safe place.
These few things listed here show how far they have gone away from his presence. It is like they no longer know who he really is. We don't get in a huge messy shameful life in the blink of an eye. This remands me a song by "Casting Crowns" that goes like this.
"...It's a slow fade when black and white are turned to gray and thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid when you give yourself away People never crumble in a day..."
knowing who he is a process that grows every day. Every time we chose to walk in our selfish ways, we are keeping on dragging ourselves to do things that are convenient to this world and our desires not to HIM.
"Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done." Romans 1:28(NLT)
