When someone comes to know Christ and starts the journey to Christlikeness there this basic thing one Christian needs so that he/she can grow.
To wards God through (Vertical)
Prayer
The word of God (reading the bible)
Towards the people of God (Horizontal)
Through fellowship
Today we will more focus on the horizontal line ‘Fellowship’. In this modern day and time this is one of the things we are leaving behind. We human beings are social beings, because of different reasons we tend to have fellowships, in other words meaning fellowship is part of our life.
When we live with our fellow humans, we don’t always get along we face different kinds of challenges that draws us away from society. This applies in the Christian community too. The purpose of this community is to help one another grow towards what God intended for us before the beginning of time. For God to see what he wants when he looks from above which is the image of His son Jesus Christ and for this to happen, we need each other.
“So, we, numerous as we are, are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and individually we are parts one of another.” (Rom 12:5) AMP
As I always say this journey of Christianity isn’t an easy one for so many reasons, so God gave us grace and brothers and sisters to help us get through it all. We need each other to get to the ultimate goal of what God intends to see within us.
Think of a support group, it is a gathering of people with a purpose to overcome some issue they face daily to be able to overcome it so they can all get to that goal they all desire to reach. Someone share the failures he/she is going through and the others support that person so he/she can have the strength to fight back and never give in.
In the church (the Christian support group I would call it in this context even if it goes beyond that) more than the love and support we give one another we have got his grace and sprit to lead us through. Isn’t it wonderful when God uses a sister or a brother to speak to us and hold us together when we fall down and break!
BEHOLD, HOW good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment poured on the head, that ran down on the beard, even the beard of Aaron, that came down upon the collar and skirts of his garments. It is like the dew of Mount Hermon and the dew that comes on the hills of Zion; for there the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life forevermore. (Ps 133 1:1-3) AMP
